OceanLake's MobileMail Enters Eastern European Market OceanLake’s Mobile Mail to be offered by VELCOM – the largest mobile carrier in the Republic of Belarus
Toronto, Ontario CANADA, Singapore April 21, 2008 - OceanLake Commerce Inc. (TSXV: OLI; OLIKF.PK) is pleased to report that VELCOM, the largest wireless carrier in Belarus has entered into an agreement to make OceanLake’s Mobile Mail available to more than 3 million of its subscribers. The service will be marketed under the name Vm@il and will form an integral component of VELCOM’s mobile Internet strategy. VELCOM is a subsidiary of Telecom Austria and is recognized as a leader in value-added and innovative telecommunications services.
“With Vm@il, VELCOM’s subscribers will have the ability to send and receive e-mail and view attachments from up to three e-mail accounts of their choice – all from virtually any mobile phone,” said William Car, OceanLake’s President and CEO. “This exciting relationship will drive revenue for VELCOM, OceanLake and IFG Telecom/YB26 Telecommunications, OceanLake’s strategic partners in the region and greatly raise the visibility of OceanLake’s services in the broader Eastern European market”.
VELCOM is the largest mobile carrier in Belarus and has been successfully implementing an aggressive growth strategy by delivering exceptional services combined with innovative and appealing products and services. OceanLake’s Mobile Mail service will be a building block in the Velcom product strategy.
OceanLake MobileMail is a full-featured mobile email service. It works by polling the user configured email accounts and sends a notification via text message to the user’s phone if there is an e-mail waiting. In that text message is a link that if opened will automatically launch the browser on the phone and take the user to their inbox. The user can then choose to open the message in their phone to view it. Reply and forward can also be done from the phone itself. MobileMail also provides calendaring and address book functionality to ensure users have all of their information on the go. Calendar events can also have reminders configured so that the user receives a text message with event details ensuring that nothing is forgotten or missed.
Across Eastern Europe, and particularly in Belarus, data-ready mobile phones serve as an important and cost-effective way for people to access e-mail and the Internet. OceanLake’s Mobile Mail is bringing the full potential of e-mail to regions such as Belarus where there are modern mobile networks but limited penetration of personal computers and fixed-line internet connectivity.
OceanLake continues to market MobileMail and meemo throughout the world directly and through partners. Interest and demand for the mobile email offerings continues to be strong and OceanLake expects to continue to add more customers in more countries on a regular basis.
